Ferrari lends its name to lots of hot stuff, such as laptops and, uh, cars, and now it extends that brand into home audio with its Meridian F80 Home Entertainment System. The Italian carmaker teams up with high-end audiophile brand Meridian, which brings plenty of aural credibility to the project.

We ourselves were duped into thinking we were listening to a pre-existing hi-fi setup, which was significantly more expensive. In reality, the F-80 was discreetly placed centrally between two (much larger) conventional standmounted loudspeakers. The Prestige came about when Richard Bates, Meridian's UK Sales Manager, removed these speakers during the demonstration.

With a wealth of engineering built inside, it recalls its Ferrari heritage with plenty of power, 80 watts from three amplifiers feeding two drivers up front and a rear-firing sub. Hook up a TV and you can have yourself a rafter-rattling DVD mini theater.

But there's more to this package than just earth-shaking sound. There's that fabled fit and finish — it's Italian luxo-sport all the way, painted up in your favorite glossy Ferrari colors including white, yellow, gloss black, silver, and of course there's the sizzling Ferrari red, too. Don't worry, though. Considering what you get, it doesn't come with a Ferrari-like price: £1495...about the price of one Ferrari wheel.
