This is one of the best iPod speaker system that tries to squeeze years of high-end audio expertise into a small, powerful and stylish device (we note for a change it's not shaped like a zeppelin.) The goal? To give you iPod convenience, high-end appearance and really impressively audio performance at loud volume without muddiness or distortion. You can plug in your iPod directly, or attach a small device which lets you stream the music from the iPod in your hand - great for letting your friends soundtrack that drunken singalong. As the name implies, it's a cool cube shape and will be available in black or white with a lovely silvery-grey grille. The controls on the top are touch-sensitive, plus you get a small remote thrown in.
The Lithium-ion battery pack lasts for eight hours - or four if you're really pushing it. You can even connect multiple systems to build your own home music network with synchronised sound in every room. You can feel the build quality when you pick the rCube up by its convenient carrying handle - it has the solid construction and heft of a high-end speaker cabinet. That power comes through in its 150 watts of room-filling sound. At last, an iPod system manly enough for the Expendables soundtrack.
But this isn't just a portable iPod speaker dock. With help from a KLEER dongle plugged into your computer, you can wirelessly stream music to it. We had a quick play with the streaming, controlled via an iPhone, and it appeared to be a slick and simple process.
Sound quality seemed very impressive, and it went truly loud for such a small box, even in the rather large room we were in.
