New NaimNet NS01 Music Server
The NS01 Music Server is the first product to be released by Naim under the NamNet audio distribution banner.
As a music server it can be used via an analogue output in a conventional audio system as a high quality source product.
It can also simultaneously deliver up to six digital feeds around the home either singly or all together as part of a distributed audio system incorporating products like the new fully compatable NaimNet NNP01 room amplifier.
Further features include a supplied remote control, a TV interface and the ability to program other suitable remote controls to drive the system.
Your music collection is ripped using the internal CD mechanism and the server will then automatically access the AMG database for retrieval of track titles and album art. The NS01 will therefore need to be connected to the internet and can be controlled via a connected PC with supplied interface software.
Once ripped, your music is stored on two 400g hard discs configured in a mirror array where one is used as a backup for failsafe security The capacity of the NS01 is 600 albums recorded in full lossless (meaning no compression) WAV format.
The NS01 has the capability of offering extra storage via NAS (network assisted storage) or USB connected drives that will allow huge additional capacity. Although the main drive rips albums for quality listening it will also pull in MP3 and AAC files from your PC and connects to the network via scalable IP-addressable Ethernet connectivity (for distributed audio systems).
Currently on limited release, we have the NS01 available for audition so the obvious question would be - it better than a CDX2?. Some think it is, but there is a way you can find out by listening for yourself.
