The AVI ADM9 active speakers do away with the need for DACs, pre & power amplifiers because everything is built into one box; the loudspeaker.
You can plug ADMs into a USB port giving you the best sounding computer music library you've heard, use the analogue input to connect them to a preamp and or CD player. Or you can do both. Input selection, volume control and muting is by IR handset.
The new fully active ADM9 two way monitors comprise 9 litre enclosures each with two amplifiers (150 and 100 watts equivalent in passive designs) fed by 4th order active filters from a Burr-Brown DAC or normal analogue input. Either input is selected by an IR handset that also controls volume and mute. This means that you can either connect it to a traditional preamp/CD player/Tuner etc or save yourself money and space by connecting it via the USB port to a computer. Which can store all your CDs, download any music you may want and give access to 4000 odd radio stations and you can also get astonishingly good results with iPods and MP3 players. The speakers also have an output for the new AVI 10" high powered Subwoofer.
AVI’s passive loudspeakers are a textbook 8 ohm load and therefore very easy to drive. Also the passive crossovers are designed to mimic the behaviour of competing active designs.
