Meridian F80 portable home entertainment centre
On the 27th February Ferrari hosted the launch of the new co-branded Meridian F80 portable home entertainment centre at Silverstone. Both companies share a desire to combine form and function with cutting edge performance, and the collaboration has produced a product of simple beauty with a hint of retro styling that, in pure audio terms, punches way above its weight.
For those who see only with their eyes the immediate shock of a £1495 price tag will be enough to dismiss the F80 from serious consideration but this product is in a different league to any other portable offering and outshines many complete high quality audio systems.
Meridian have incorporated their active DSP (Digital Sound Processing) technology to great effect, driving the two full range front and rear sub speakers with separate 80 Watt (hence F80) amplifiers that keep the signal in the digital domain until the last moment eliminating the need for passive crossovers. The sound quality is nothing less than ‘awesome’ but that is only half the picture as the f80 will play your DVD's via a composite or S-Video output for when you are away - use the built in speakers or at home connect external speakers or headphones. You can also connect your iPod or MP3 player using either digital or analogue connections, truly versatile. Although you can order an F80 in your chosen colour for delivery, we strongly suggest you wander into the shop for an audition, we guarantee you will be amazed - and might even want two.
